To celebrate our first 25 years together in February 2008, we created a booklet, describing how we met and some of the key things that happened to us during our first 25 years together. This section of the website is a summary of that booklet, with links to further details.
Dolores and Steve Baker
25th Wedding Anniversary
26th February, 2008
Once upon a time in the West, Dolores and Steve met, fell in
love, got married and lived happily ever after….but you probably want a
few more details than that so….
We first met at TOSCO, where we both worked. Steve had just arrived from England and Dolores had just moved from Los Angeles and fate had long ago determined they should meet! Our first real “date” happened due to a conflict! Dolores had arranged a roller skating party on November 5th, and Steve, and the other Brits, had decided to indoctrinate the locals with the Guy Fawks Night legend. Steve asked Dolores to postpone her get together and come to the Bonfire Night festivities at a barbeque pit in a local park.

We decided to buy a house and ended up finding a condo, which at the time was on the far west edge of Bakersfield…now its close to the center of the new development! Somewhere along the way decided we would get married and thought this would be a good time – so all the paperwork was done with the right names! So romantic!
When we heard that Betty could get a seat on the bus for the company trip to Las Vegas, it was set and, after a lot of drinks to fill the delay at the wedding chapel, we got married late on Saturday, February 26th, 1983……..
Betty, Doug and Sue (Dolores’ step- brother and his wife) and Steve’s best man (Carlos something…) and Adrienne, his girlfriend, had dinner and went to the late night Anne Murray show, during which Steve fell asleep – a tradition Steve gets from his parents….falling asleep early! Even on his wedding day!

In 1990 we decided it was time for some changes.
Dolores went back to school getting her MA then PhD in Clinical Psychology.
Steve formed his own consulting and training company, Skills Development Group and continued his work with Mayo. We moved to San Diego, first to Cardiff and then bought a house in Encinitas, the garage is shown here.
We had a lot of fun in San Diego - click here for more details!
While we were waiting for the completion of the sale of the business Steve was working at, CCN, we explored a variety of areas in our RV looking for the perfect place to live in our “retirement” ……and found “Brush Creek Ranch” - 60 acres of trees with a creek, 30 miles west of Cheyenne, Wyoming. We left California in August 1997 and lived in the RV, first in Cheyenne and then up the hill from where the house was being built - as soon as we had a road, electric power and a working well! We moved in the house on January 1, 1998 and, other than a year when we rented a house in Orange County, California related to Steve’s job with SafeGuard, we have lived here happily ever since.
